    Answer:

(1/8+1/7)=15/56 part for stranger, but left remaining 41/56 part for her family:

Husband share 1/4 of 41/56 which is 41/224 rest remaining 41/56-41/224 = 123/224 will be devided

between three daughters and one son, but son gets double of his sisters share which will be devided

in five part one part for each daugher and two part for son, so daughter gets 123/1120 part and son gets 246/1120 part now for family share which is 41/56 will be shared like this:

    father 41/224+daughter 123/1120+daughter 123/1120+daughter 123/1120+ son246/1120 or

    41/224+123/1120+123/1120+123/1120+246/1120 =820/1120=82/112=41/56 part for family

A woman dies, leaving behind her husband, a son, and three daughters.

She also leaves (1/8 + 1/7) of her estate to a stranger.

According to law, the husband receives one quarter of the estate

and son receives double the share of a daughter,

but this division is made only after the legacy to the stranger hs been paid.

How must the inheritance be divided?

    Solution:

    The stranger receives 1/8 + 1/7 = 15/56 of the estate,

leaving 41/56 to be shared out among the family.

The husband receives one-quarter of what remains, or 1/4 of 41/56 = 41/224.

The son and the three daughters receive their shares in the ratio 2 : 1 : 1 : 1

so the son’s share is two fifths of the estate

after the stranger and husband have been given their bequests

    and each daughter’s share is one fifth. (2 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 5).
